Among the five major types of roofing (asphalt shingles, concrete, slate, metal, and wood), there are smaller ranges of different products, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. However, for most people, the decision to use one of the roofing types will be based largely on cost and reliability. If you’re looking for more tips, Wichita Roofing Association has it for you.
Coverage of Asphalt
Asphalt shingles have the most to tell of all types of roofing, according to almost four out of every five homeowners in the United States. Asphalt singles are available in two types: agricultural shingle formulations and fibreglass shingle. Both of these roofing options are fire-resistant, lightweight, weather-resistant, and waterproof. Three-tab (standard) and multi-layer (designer) shingles are available, with three-tab shingles having a minimally textured finish and multi-layered shingles having a heavily textured finish.
Addition of Wood
Wood shingles or shakes are the best of the key roofing types for homeowners who want a more conventional or rustic theme. Wood shingles, which are machine-sawn from southern oak, cedar, or redwood, are ideal for log houses, and wood shakes, with their angled edges, give a roof a modern feel.
However, to render wood shingles and shakes fire resistant, they must be handled in the plant. Exposed wood shingles and shakes might not be available in certain areas of the world.
Overlay on the Surface
Tile roofing is one of the oldest roofing types, dating back over ten thousand years to ancient China. Tile roofing may be made of clay or concrete, and red tile roofing is common in California, the Southwest, and Florida. Tile roofing, on the other hand, is now available in a wide range of colours and special finishes.
The only disadvantage to tile roofing is that it is much heavier than concrete, metal, or wood roofing, so if you want to replace any of those types of roofing with tile roofing, make sure your home can handle the additional cost.
Shield with Slate
While tile and slate are similar in that they are both extremely rough, slate is a natural rock located in the Northeastern United States. Slate roofing comes in a variety of grades and finishes, and it is the most indestructible of all roofing materials. Slate is, though, the most costly of the roofing materials, and it must be installed by roofers who have been educated in the proper techniques. When slate roofing is installed properly, it will last for decades.
Roofing made of metal
Metal roofing is the final form of roofing. Metal roofing is used in both sheets and shingles and is ideal for steeply pitched roofs. Metal roofing sheets come in a variety of shapes and sizes, while metal roofing shingles may be made to look nearly identical to wooden shingles and shakes.
